How did the Khoikhoi create new breeds?
They bred only the biggest and best animals which provided a lot of milk and meat.
What did the Khoikhoi society do with animals?
They captured wild sheep and cattle and tamed them.
What were the Khoikhoi people?
They were herders.
When did the Khoikhoi people arrive in South Africa and where did they settle?
About 2000 years ago and they settled amongst the hunter-gatherers.
What did those that settled in the eastern regions do and why?
They farmed both crops and animals as there they have summer rain.
What did they do in the dry western lands?
They could only herd cattle and sheep.

How did the Khoikhoi carry there goods around?
They used their cattle.
Who led the different family groups?
Each family group or clan had a headman or elder who led them.
What was a chief?
A cheif was the most important headman who was selected to lead the group when there were lots of groups that lived together.
What was the chiefs job?
The cheif met with all the headmen to decide who used which pastures and also let them in conflicts.
Who did the Khoikhoi trade with?
They traded with the San and African farmers.
