Deontological
focused on the intrinsic rightness and wrongness of action
Telos
The end, or purpose of something
Natural law
A deontological theory based on behaviour that accords with given laws or moral rules (e.g. given by God) that exist independently of human societies or systems.
Synderisis
To follow the good and avoid the evil, the rule which all precepts follow
Secondary precepts
The laws which follow from primary precepts
Primary precepts
The most important rules in life: to protects life, to reproduce, to live in community, to teach the young and to beleive in God.
Practical reason
The tool which makes moral decisions
Eudaimonia
Living well, as an ultimate end in life which all other actions should lead towards.
Eternal Law
The principles by which God made and controls the Universe, which are only fully known by God.
Divine Law
The Bible- this reflects the Eternal Law.
Natural law
The theory that an eternal, absolute moral law can be discovered by reason.
Human Law
Everyday rules that govern our lives. (From the legal system to notices and signs. E.g. ‘Don’t walk on the grass).
Apparent Good
Something which seems to be good or the right thing to do but which does not fit the perfect human ideal.
Real Good
The right thing to do- fits the human ideal.
Intrinsically good
Something which is good in itself, without reference to the consequences.
