Connotation

Denotation

Rhythm
how a writer uses sentence length and sentence structure to pace their writing, and how they place the words and sentences on a page to help their writing flow.
Rhyme Scheme
the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse.
Enjambment
(in verse) the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet, or stanza.
Stanza
a group of lines forming the basic recurring metrical unit in a poem; a verse.
Free Verse
poetry that does not consist of many rhymes
Blank Verse
this is a verse in poetry that is completely without rhymes.
Sonnet
a poem that consists of 14 lines and uses a formal number of rhyme schemes, usually containing 10 syllables.
Couplet
these are two lines in the verse of a poem in which are in the same meter and have the same rhyme
Line Break
this is the point in a line in a poem where the line ends.
Illusion
this is a narrative technique such as dreams, that are used to confuse and illude the reader.
Effect of first-person POV
The effect of first person POV is used to make a connection between the reader and the narrator
Effect of second-person POV
the effect of second-person POV is used to force the reader into the story and get more engaged into it.
Effect of third-person POV
Third person POV is used to let the reader into the many perspectives of a book.
