Satire
Creat awarenesss and motivation for change. An author might choose to include satire to entertain and throught-provoke as well as express their opinions on sensitive issues.
Foreshadowing
Provides an element of curosity and suspense as to what will come . Can increase narrative tension and allows for a sort of dramatic irony as the reader knows something the reader doesnt.
Dialect
Powerful tool that brings more life to characters and make them unique, illustrates their origins, cultural background or social class. Can help build context of setting.
Symbolism
Create meaning and emotion in the story by making one thing represent something else. Used to represent an idea, quality or theme.
Simile/Metaphore
Enhance understanding by compairing unfamiliar ideas to familiar ideas. Adds depth to text by making connections and characterizes.
Imagery
Connect to personal aspects, experiences or memories of the reader. It can enhance the reader’s rendition of the text by immersing them deeper by appealing to senses
Personification
Makes inatimate objects relateable to the reader. Helps reader connect more with the story, emphasizes non-human characters with human characteristics.
Flashback
Recount events that happened prior to the story’s primary sequence of events. Fill in crucial backstory. To provide essential context to the plot or character to keep the reader engaged.
Fiction V NonFiction
Fiction refers to literature created from the imagination. Nonfiction is literature based in fact.
Hyperbole
to emphazise an idea/thought. To draw attention to a certain element in a story
