Quarter rest
don’t play for one note
4/4 time signature.
4/ means 4 bats to each measure. /4 means a quarter note gets one beat

Half rest
rest for 2 counts
Tied notes
joined with a curved line-these connected pitches are the same pitch! Played on the piano by combining the rhythm of two pitches- quarter note is played for the same length as a half note!

Dotted half note
-half note that gets 3 counts
Slurred notes
two pitches connected by a curved line- these connected pitches are different pitches! Played on the piano by connecting the notes with as little separation as possible!
Pick up note/anacrusis
Notes that occur before the first full measure. nThe last measure of the piece is shortened by that number of beats in the pick-up measure.
Ex
1 quarter note pick up last measure will have one less quarter note.
