Drop of infusion
How much medicine you’re supposed to put in, for how long(daily, monthly etc.) and how often. Ex. QID or TID
Reconstitute
Restoring a substance back to the original state by adding water.
Hyperalimentation
When a patient needs to be fed because they cannot digest food. Ex. A patient may be in a coma they obviously cannot feed themselves.
Generic name
Official nonproprietary name approved for a drug by the u.s food and drug administration. EX. Tylenol instead of acetaminophen.
Dosage strength
Weight of medication in a dose.
Inscription
Part of prescription indicating medication name, dosage form, strength, and quantity. Ex. Tylenol(acetaminophen) 2000mg BID 60
Medication order
A written request for medicine from the physician. Ex. Think of the papers in Peru.
National drug code (NDC)
A label on the drug product that identifies the manufacturer, product, and size of container. Ex. Look at vitamins downstairs.
Pharmacokinetics
Movement of drugs through the body; absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.
Prescriptions
A written order by a health care professional for dispensing medicine. (Slightly different from a medication order)
Signa(sig)
Part of prescription that describes the directions for the patient. Ex QID for x amount of days/ weeks etc.
Subscription
The part of the prescription for the PHARMACIST on how to compound. (Might need to make solutions for certain patients because every patient has different needs.)
Superscription
Part of a prescription designated with a certain symbol ( an R with a line) meaning “take this drug.”
