Key words Flashcards
What is a system?
A system is a set of interrelated objects comprising of components and processes.
What are the three energy types that occur along the coastline?
Kinetic, Thermal, Potential
What are the types of system with examples?
Open system - Coastal landscapes
Closed system - The carbon and water cycles
What is dynamic equilibrium?
A state of balance between continuing processes.
How many sediment cells are there?
There are eleven sediment cells operating around the coast of England and Wales.
What is a sediment cell?
A section of coastline that is involved in the complete cycle of sediment transport and deposition.
What are the 5 coastal zones?

What are the three types of wave break?
Spilling, Plunging, Surging
What is the name for the highest and lowest part of a wave?
Highest - Peak.
Lowest - Trough.
Spring tide.
Highest high tide, highest low tide and greatest tidal range.
Neap tide.
Lowest high tide, lowest low tide and smallest tidal range.
What are the three main types of weathering?
Chemical, Physical/mechanical and Biological.
