Compass
A small piece of equipment that helps you find direction. The pointer always points towards North.
Continent
One of Earth’s great land masses; there are seven continents.
Contour Line.
A line on a map joining places that are the same height about sea level.
Country
A nation with it’s own land and government.
Continents are split into countries.
Economic
To do with business, money and jobs.
Environment
To do with our surroundings and how we look after them (air, rivers, wildlife etc).
Environmental Geography
The study of how we affect our surroundings e.g. pollution, protecting animal species.
Geography
The study of Earth, it’s physical features and how humans affect it.
Grid Reference
A set of numbers, or numbers and letters, that tells you where to find something on a map.
Government
A group of people who are in charge of a country or state.
Human Geography
The study of people, how and where they live.
Physical Geography
The study of what our planet is like.
Rural
Countryside, where people live e.g. villages.
Social
To do with people and their lives.
Urban
A built up area e.g. towns and cities.
