Autocracy
When one person dictates law and rules with authority. They can get advice , but this can be ignored.
Kaiser Willhelm II
the autocratic leader who was forced to setp down by his people in November 1918.
The weimar rebpublic
The demeocratic goverment in Germany that was set up after the war (once the Kaiser left)
The treaty of versailles
The peace aggrement signed at the end of WW1 that massivly affected Germany in a negitive way.
Proportinal representation
The voting system that was used in the weimar republic. It made a strong and decisve goverment impossible.
“Left wing” extremeists
Left wing politics = Communism.
Extreme communists wanted to the weimar fail.
“Right wing” extremeists
Right wing politics = Nationallist polititions.
Nationalists are hyper proud of their country.
Extreme Nationalists felt that the weimar republic was failling and needed to be replaced with autocracy.
The DAP and the Nazis
The DAP was formed of working people who were proud of their country. It was originally led by Anton Drexler then led by Adolf Hitler who changed its name to the : Nationalist Socialist Party.
The years of recovery
In the middle of the 1920s , the threat of extremeists to the Weimar Rupublic declinded. FRom 1924 - 1929 , it looked like democracy might work in Germany.
The depression
A depression is when a country draatically runs out money. This happend in Germany from 1929 - 1932, support fo extremeist parties dramatically improved.
Dictatorship
The Nazi party took power , through democarcy, in 193. Once Adolf Hitler was head of the weimar republic he set about closing democracy and setting up autocracy.
Totaliarianism
Once Adolf Hitler hd total control he created totaliarianism in Germany. This autocracy taken to the the point where peoples freedoms are extremly limited.
