Key To Physics Vocabulary Flashcards
Force
Push or pull that gives you energy
Friction
Force that one surface exerts on another, when the to rub against each other. Eventually causes motion to stop
Sir Isaac Newton
During 1665-1666 He developed the three laws that describe all states of motion
Momentum
Product of an objects mass times velocity
Inertia
Moving objects tend tendency to continue in straight lines Or of a stationary object to remain in place
2nd law of motion
Law that shows how mass force and Acceleration are related. (F=m X a)
Rolling friction
Friction produced by wheels or rolling over surfaces
Fluid friction
Friction exerted by water, oil and air as an object moves through it
Gravity
Force that pulls objects toward each other
Sliding friction
When solid surfaces slide over each other
Unbalanced force
A force that changes the direction of an objects movement
Balanced force
A force that does not change the direction of an object movement
1st law of motion
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will continue moving at a constant speed unless acted upon by an unbalanced force
Weight
Measure of the force of gravity on an object (2nd law of motion)
Law of universal gravitation
Gravity acts between objects everywhere in the universe
