Deferred gratification
The ability to wait for a rewards and know that the reward will come later
Demonized pupil identity
A black or white working class hypersexualized student. Often peer led and are seen as culturally deprived
Differentiation
Refers to differences in social groups or individuals based on different criteria such as gender, age, class and education
Disconnected-local choosers
Working class parents who simply send their children to local schools rather than researching different schools
Diverse education
Enabling students to study a diverse range of education to help protect students identity’s that may be lost
Economic capital
Economic capital is the amount of money and net worth someone has that can be turned into other capitals
Educational capital
Educational capital is someones education success such as a university degree or GCSEs. This can help people gain other capitals such as economic
Education as a commodity
Idea that its something that can be brought or sold
Educational triage
How schools sort students based on their likelihood to pass. Those who will pass without help, those who will pass with help and those who wont pass even with help
Elaborated speech code
Speech that is formed using full sentences and more sophisticated language
Equal opportunities policies
Refers to the policy that makes sure it is fair for people to get a job regardless of their background and ethnicity
Ethnocentric curriculum
When one culture enforces their culture on to another. In education this can be to promote patriotism and install national pride however it can often ignore other cultures ideas
External factors
A factor that affect a student outside of school such as family, class, race, gender and religion
Fatalism
The idea that what will happen will happen and your life can’t be changed. Often the opinion of the working class
Family structure
Organization of the family and who is included in that family unit
