What is Ahimsa?
Not killing. Respect for life, not being violent.
What is Anatta?
No self, no soul; the Universal Truth that the soul is insubstantial; that people change over their lives; denial of a real or permanent self.
What is Annica?
Impermanence, instability, not permanent, etc.
What is Dharma
Universal law; ultimate truth; the teachings of Buddha.
What is Dukkha?
Suffering; ill; everything leads to suffering; un-satisfactoriness.
What is Karma?
Literally ‘action’. Deliberate actions that affect the believer’s circumstances in this and future lives; cause and effect.
What is Nirvana?
To reach a state of perfect peace where the individual experiences liberation from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
What are the Three Marks of Existence?
Annica, Anatta and Dukkha.
Who is a Buddha?
The Buddha is someone who is has reached enlightenment or has “awakened”
What is enlightenment?
Enlightenment is when a person has been freed from the circle of rebirth and has obtained wisdom of enabling clarity of perception
What is rebirth / reincarnation
When someone dies they are reborn into the form of another being. The being that they tie into depends on their actions in past lives
What is the eightfold path?
The eightfold path is a pathway taken to make an individual enlightened
What is Buddha-hood?
Buddha-hood is once an individual has been enlightened
