Parts of the verb used for something that has happened and is still happening

Relating to a particular subject, e.g. Mountaineering or mechanics
Past tense
A verb that describe something that happened in the past, e.g. ‘they laughed’
Abstract
Something you cannot see or touch
Sensory
Something you can sense or feel
Summary
On account of the main points of something
Synthesis
Making connections between ideas
Inference
A conclusion about something based on evidence
Autobiography
A personal account of someone’s life, written by that person
Connotations
The underlying Ideas and feelings suggested by a word
Abstract noun
A word used to identify emotions, ideas and qualities, rather than physical things, e.g. ‘bravery’, ‘happiness’
Statistics
Figures such as 85% or 4000 children.
Discourse marker
A word or phrase used as an organisational tool to link ideas
Direct address
Speaking directly to your audience using ‘you’
Repetition
Repeating something
Rhetorically question
A question asked for a dramatic effect where the answer is not required

The attitude of a piece of writing

The type of text, e.g. a letter or an article
