Globalisation
The process by which the word is becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of increased integration and independence of the global economy.
Vitality
A measure of how busy or how lively a place is e.g. highstreets.
Multi-National Corporations
A multinational corporation or worldwide enterprise is an organisation that owns or controls production of goods or services in one or more countries other than their home country.
Characteristics
A feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to identify them.
Socio-economics
Relating to or concerned with the interaction of social and economic factors.
Demographics
Statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it.
Cultural
Relating to the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a society
Independant retailer
An independant retailer is someone who is completely responsible for his or her own business.
Representation
The description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way.
Primary industry
The part of a countrys economy which is based upon the manufacturing of goods e.g. technology
Tertiary industry
The part of a countys economy which is based upon the provision of services e.g. shops, tourism
Quaternary industry
Knowledge based economy, typically includes services such as information technology, or universities
Post-Fordist activity
Manufacturing activity that is flexible, market driven and responsive to consumer demand.
The pre-industrial phase
The primary sector leads the economy and may employ more than two-thirds of the working population, agriculture is the most important activity.
The industrial phase
The secondary and tertiary sectors increase in importance. The primary sector declines.
