Key Terms Flashcards
Ability of the eye to see objects in the distance and then adjust to a close object.
Accommodation
Abnormality of the eye in which the refraction of a ray of light is spread over a diffuse area rather than sharply focused on the retina.
Astigmatism
Instrument used to measure hearing.
Audiometer
Opacity(clouding) of the lens of the eye.
Cataract
Yellow or brown waxy substance produced in the ceruminous glands of the ear.
Cerumen
Genetic or acquired abnormality in color perception.
Color deficiency
Inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by bacteria or virus.
Conjunctivitis
Injury to the translucent anterior structure of eye.
Corneal abrasion
State of balance, which is controlled by structures of the inner ear.
Equilibrium
Disorder that involves increased intraocular pressure resulting in atrophy of the optic nerve and possibly blindness.
Glaucoma
Sense of taste.
Gustation
Error of refraction in which affected individuals can see distant objects clearly but cannot see near objects also called farsightedness.
Hyperopia
Syndrome characterized by recurring episodes of hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo that can progressively lead to deafness.
Ménière disease
Error of refraction in which light rays are focused in front of the retina enabling the person to see distinctly for only a short distance also called nearsightedness.
Myopia
Sense of smell.
Olfaction
