acculturation
a process in which members of one cultural group adopt some of the beliefs and behaviours of another group.
ambiguity
when something is uncertain, vague or indistinct.
assimilation
the process of acquiring new customs and attitudes through contact and communication with others. Usually used when immigrants settle in new country.
central belief
a belief is central to the extent that it is important to an individual’s attitude about others. The less central/intense a belief, the easier it is to change.
co-culture
a different culture existing in the same country

enculturation
the process whereby individuals learn their group’s culture, through experience, observation and instruction.
ethnocentrism
conviction that one’s own culture is superior to all other cultures and that other cultures should be measured by how they live up to your own cultural standards.
explicit
something is openly stated, obvious and in detail, leaving no room fro confusion.
fatalism
the belief that you do not have personal control over your life and that everything is determined by fate.
heterogeneity
composed of divers parts resulting in differentness.
homogeneity
composed of parts or elements that are all of the same kind.
implicit
something that is hidden, unspoken or embedded.
incitement
to provoke stimulate, promote or encourage something.
incongruity
when something is not in agreement with something else or clashes with it.
