Norms
The most prevalent (mainstream) role behaviors in a group or society.
They are often informal but widely understood and followed by most members of a community.
Values
Values are beliefs that influence how individuals behave (i.e. the moral idea that you shouldn’t steal from a friend).
Expectations
A belief that someone will or should achieve something expected from our family and society.
Cultural and Social Norms
Social norms are a shared standard of acceptable behavior in society by groups or different cultures.
For example, a cultural norm is saying “bless you” when someone sneezes. A social norm is saying “please” and “thank you”.
Gender Expectations
Gender expectations refer to the societal norms and roles that are assigned to individuals based on their gender. These expectations can include behaviors, responsibilities, and societal pressures associated with being male or female.
Familial Values and Expectations
Familial values and expectations are the beliefs, traditions, and standards of behavior that are specific to a particular family. They can include things like the importance of education, religious practices, or career choices.
Family values are guiding principles that inform how you and your family make decisions and live your lives. They outline what is important to your family and what you are all striving toward.
