the donner party
(1846-1847) migration of 300 people to California, failed by a short cut, lead to canabalism and rescued. only half left remaining.
gold rush
(1849-1855) gold is discovered in california, lead to HUGE migration to the west. 300,000 moved in the end.

plains animal, pivotal to native american life.
manifest destiny
the idea that it was gods will that white settlers will settle the whole of north america

a group of elders who made descions for the tribe

lifestyle that involves moving around, instead of living in one place

tent like home (made from stretched animal hide, over wooden poles)

family farm with a house and land surrounding to farm (160 acres)
indgenous
relating to the earlier human inhabitants of a place

indgenous- no one owned land
white settlers - they owned it
land could not be bought or sold.
all land is sacred
