What is an aside?
A remark or passage in a play that is intended to be heard by the audience but is supposed to be unheard by the other characters.
What is an exposition?
The insertion of important background information within a story.
What is the climax?
The part of a story, where the tension or action reaches its highest point.
What is the resolution?
The part of a story, where the problem of the story is resolved/worked out.
What is meant by retrospective?
Looking back on something that has happened in the past.
What is a flashback - analepsis?
The interruption of the chronological sequence of an event of an earlier occurence.
What is a flash-forward - proplepsis?
A scene that temporarily takes the narrative forward in time from the current point of the story in literature.
What is foreshadowing?
A literary device in which the writer gives a hint of what is to come later in the story.
What are patterns of three?
Where three related words or points are presented in quick succession for literary effect.
What is a circular narrative?
A story that ends in the same place it began.
What are shifting timescales?
Changing the time which is spoken about. Past & Present.
