Key Scientific Skills Flashcards
1
Q
Accuracy
A
How close your results are to the true value.
2
Q
Precision
A
How consistent results are when measurements are repeated.
3
Q
Repeatable results
A
A measurement is repeatable if the SAME person repeats the experiment using same method and same equipment and it gives the same (or similar) results. Previously known as reliable.
4
Q
Reproducible results
A
If another person (or the same person using a different method) can get the same results.
5
Q
Resolution of measurement
A
The smallest change in the quality that can be measured & detected by an instrument.
6
Q
Anomaly
A
A result which doesn’t fit the pattern of the other results in the table. This should be ignored when calculating the mean.
