it shows the Jesus’ passion, the redemptive act of suffering which brought about salvation/symbolism of the resurrection gives hope of our resurrection/ symbols of victory reflect winning over death

how does the Magisterium work?

A

The Magisterium is the teaching authority of the Catholic church formed of Bishops
Ordinary: Papal encyclicals etc, reminders to Catholic. The Bishops of the Church teach what the Church has always taught (basic of Catholic faith)
Conciliar: All Bishops of Church called together to form a council to discuss Church teachings and issues. For example the Vatican II. This council made major changes in Church teachings and practices (updating the Church). for example mass can be celebrated in vernacular language, which refers to local language of country.
Pontifical: This is where a papal infallible statement is made. Only the Pope himself can make a papal infallible statement but he will have consulted with the Bishops of the Church by holding discussion beforehand. Ex Cathedra decisions (decisions made by someone in a position of power or authority)
