key question we could get ? Flashcards
4 methods of surfacing the boat
control surface
lp blows - using snort and vex valves to send air into mbt
emergency blows - using pilot vv and QAV, emergency bottle group
hpa blows
4 location of hydraulic plant
Standby main ( naval stores)
HSD hydraulic ( thrust block flat) after 88 bulkhead
Main and external ( dg room )
Key component of hydraulic plants
pumps - to put energy into the hydraulic oil
rep tank- supply hydraulic fluid into the system
filter - clean the hydraulic oil
cooler - when under pressure the oil get hot so a cooler is used before it returns to rep tank
accumulators- take up surge
unloader valves - to control the pressure between 180 and 207bar
fire isolation valve- to isolate a system in a event of a burst
what are the valves that go through 64 to 74 WTB
CAIS valves
automatic close if something inside the rc trips
Used to prevent contamination from leaving the primary containment
where would we find blige, ballast, and trim pumps
HP ballast - dg room
HP bilge - feed pump flat
MP ballast - EMS electric machinery space
AFT trim pump - MMS lower level
how would we operate High pressure blows if we lose hydraulics
by opening the bypass valve than turning the valve with rachets
what do we use hydraulic control units for ?
eg two in sonar cabinet space
raising and lowering mast if PMS was to falling
it the local control of mast
where is controlled air taken from to open the pilot valve
controlled air comes from HPA and is reduced to 28bar by it own dedicated reducer
(sonar cap space deckhead)
what is HP Blows and how do we use it
HP Blows are operated from SCC on 4 IPB . this is the normal method of surfacing , we operate all 4 blows simultaneously . this takes air from the HPA system (56 bottles from 4 bottle groups)
emergency blows and where we use it
emergency blows are primarily operated from SCC by opening the QA (quick acting) valves. This opens a pathway for 28 bar control air to operate the solenoid emergency blow pilot valve
operating the pilot valve allows the flow of stored HPA to change direction thus operating the emergency blow to open
LP blow system and operated how?
operated manually , but ventilation system is lined up by PMS. VEX 962 in the control room must be SHUT, this diverts air from the ventilation system to the LP mast blow pipework when the LP blower is running . this in turn put air into the ballast tanks.
MUST BE AT PD BECAUSE WE NEED TO USE THE SNORT INDUCTION
The function of the trim system
-supply sea water to the sanitary tanks
- transfer sea water internally between the trim and compensating tanks , to adjust the trim and heel of the submarine
- provide an emergency cooling supply for FW/SW which services the reactor compartment fresh water cooling system heat exchangers
the function of MP ballast system
- assist the trim system by transferring water internally to adjust trim and heel
-supply sea water for the fire fighting through CFHR at pressure and back up WSC water fog spray - adjust submarine buoyancy by admitting and discharge water from M COMP TANKS
the function of HP ballast pump ?
-adjust the submarine buoyancy but admitting and discharging from O COMP TANK
- back up the bilge system
- provide rapid de-ballast capability in a event of emergency
- pump water overboard from flooded compartments via the LP bilge system
the function of LP bilge system
- collect water from bilge areas to maintain clean and dry conditions
- remove oil from dirty bilge water and discharge overboard
- discharge ashore contents of the clean bilge, dirty bilge, contaminated oil tank, non active drain tank and precipitator drain tank
