like a lion turnus appeared to pallas, pallas throws a spear at turnus, it grazes him but does not hurt him, turnus then throws a appear at pallas and it goes through his breast plate and stabs him
what does turnus say to pallas as he dies
“take is as a message to evander, I am sending the pallas back to him that he deserves, evanders hospitality to Aeneas will cost him”
what does turnus take from pallas
pallas belt as a trophy for his victory
how does Aeneas react to the death of pallas
enraged with FUROR, goes in search for turnus (at which point juno saves turnus, shadow Aeneas)
when turnus realises hes been tricked how does he react
frustrated and so ashamed he tries to kill himself three times but juno held him back
what mezentius compared to

describe the fight between Aeneas and mezentius and lausus
M throws his spear at Aeneas, it bounces off killing someone else, A throws spear and it hits M in the groin, Lausus leaps forward between M and A, Aeneas warns him and asks him why he’s doing this, calls him “too rash”, Aeneas drives his sword through Lausus piercing the tunic his mother made him, Aeneas asks Lausus’ comrades why they didn’t help him
what happens to Mezentius after the death of Lausus? redemption?
he kept asking about lausus and what happened to him, find out hes dead, questions why he wanted to live so much that he allowed his son to die in his place, acknowledges his past conduct was wrong and admits his guilt
describe the scene between mezentius and his horse
speaks to his horse, Rhaebus, who he loves, tells the horse that they’ll either be victorious and kill Aeneas or they will fall together, says that he doesn’t think the horse would abide by any other master
mezentius’ death
Aeneas throws spear, it hits the horse in the temples and it falls head first on top of M, Aeneas taunts him and M asks that A protects his body from the hate of his people and that he be buried with his son, Aeneas then stabs him in the throat
what does the relationship between Mezentius and Lausus show
- the strength of a father son relationship
- loyalty to your father is very important
- this relationship can redeem past misdeeds
what does turnus do at the start of book 12
he becomes aware that the latins are in grave danger and agrees to fight Aeneas in a due alone to save the others
how do latinus and amata react to the duel
they try to dissuade turnus, latinus says that turnus cannot marry lavinia because of the prophecy and that turnus is foolish to do this, amata weeps, subtly suggests that if turnus dies sheh too will die as she will not live to see Aeneas marry lavinia
what does juno do to prevent the duel
sends juturna, turnus’ sister
what does Aeneas vow
that if turnus wins the Trojans will withdraw to pallenteum and no descendants will ever attack the Latin’s
if he should win he will claim nothing for himself he will marry Lavinia, Latinus will retain power, the Latinas and Trojans will live together in peace

a pack of waterfowl dive and threaten an eagle that has seized a swan, causing the swan to be free

how does Aeneas get injured and who helps him
whilst trying to restore peace, he is wounded by an arrow, he withdraws from the battle, healers are unable to help, the venus heals him with a magic herb restoring his strength
what is trunus doing after the duel breaks up
he goes man with bloodlust and rides around on a chariot driven by his sister in disguise killing everyone in sight
after Aeneas is healed by his mother in bk 12 what does he do and who helps him again
venus directs her sons attention to the citadel that had been left undefended by the latins, Aeneas commands his men to attack
what happens to amata and what does this suggests
when aeneas’ men attack the citadel she fears all is lost and that turnus is dead so she hangs herself in despair, this suggests that women are over emotions and contollled by their feelings
what are Aeneas and turnus both compared to
just as two enemy bulls fight over a heifer, the bulls are locked together exchanging blow upon blow
why si the end of the book controversial and kinda confusing
in book 6 Anchises tell Aeneas that he should spare his enemies, but Aeneas see turnus is wearing pallas’ belt as a trophy and he is filled with anger and kills him- disobeying his father
