What happens in Stave 1
A
- Scrooge talks to Fred
- Scrooge is visited my Marley, who tells of the ghosts to come

What happens in Stave 2
A
- Scrooge wakes and is visited by the past Ghost
- They go to his school, he sheds a tear and sees Fan
- They visit Fezziwig’s party
- They visit Belle (twice) breakup and new family
- Scrooge tries to extinguish the spirit as he can’t bear any more

What happens in Stave 3
A
- Scrooge accepts the present ghost immediately
- They visit the streets, see cheerfulness and plenty among poverty
- The Cratchits house, they are modest but proud, TT is kind and selfless despite illness
- The isolated places
- The miners with their families
- The solitary lighthouse
- The sailors, separated but still with C spirit - Fred’s house, they make fun of Scrooge, he is the only one missing out
- Ignorance and Want, wretched and frightful, their innocence stolen by poverty, the Ghost mirrors scrooges words back at him

What happens in Stave 4
A
- This Ghost makes Scrooge feel ‘Solemn Dread’, he reveres him
- Scrooge is keen to learn
- The merchants, they don’t care about the funeral
- Old Joe’s, Scrooge is taken to the worst part of town, ‘Reeked with crime, filth, and misery’
- His shop is visited by three people, all selling items that
belonged to Scrooge - Scrooge listens in horror, he doesn’t realise it is happening to him, but believes it could
- The death bed
- The young couple, Scrooge wants to see emotion about the death, and is shown a happy couple
- Tiny Tim, Scrooge wants to see ‘‘tenderness connected with a death’’ TT has died, and the Cratchits are mourning him, and promise he will be remembered, unlike Scrooge
- The graveyard, Scrooge doesn’t realise he is the dead man, the Spirit reveals that it is and Scrooge breaks down, acknowledging that he will change his ways

What happens in Stave 5
A
- Scrooge wakes, ready to “make amends”, he is full of good intentions
- Scrooge is changed. He becomes a “Second Father” to TT, and is changed in a range of ways
- Ends with a blessing from TT, “ God bless Us, Every One”
