Define technology.
The means for controlling nature in order to perform a function, solve a problem or improve a pre-existing solution to a problem.
What is appropriate technology?
Technology that is suitable to the social and economic conditions of the geographic area in which it is to be applied, is environmentally sound, and promotes self-sufficiency on the part of those using it.
What is intermediate technology?
Technology that is suitable for use in developing countries, typically making use of locally available resources.
What is technology leapfrogging?
When a new technology is adopted without a precursor technology.
What is an externality?
An impact - either a cost or a benefit - which is not accounted for in the initial economic cost of a product or process.
What is an attitudinal fix?
When people change their behaviour to reduce a problem rather than relying on technology to fix the problem.
