Family
The relationships of people through blood, marriage or adoption and living together with children and possibly a pet
Household
One individual or a group of people living together at one address and share a living space eg: students living in uni accommodation
Marriage
a legally sanctioned contract between a man and a woman (marriage act 2013 legalized gay marriage)
Civil Partnerships
legally sanctioned partnerships between two members of the same sex
separation
informal breakdown of a marriage. live apart but not formally divorced.
empty shell marriage
husband and wife stay together in name’s sake only.
welfare state
the portion of the government which provides benefits
dependency culture
people becoming reliant on government money than earning their own
perverse incentive
people choosing to have children for the money it brings
social policy
plans or actions set out by the government helping to tackle social issues
democratic society
everyone gets a say through voting
symmetrical family
where the roles of the husband and wife mirror each other
social construct
something that is created by people and changes depending on age/ location/ time frame/ culture etc
demography
study of the characteristics of human populations eg: the size and structure and how these change over time
birth rate
the number of live births per 1000 of the population each year
