Christanity part 2
Baptism
Baptism is the sacrament through which people become members of the church. To ‘baptise’ means to immerse in water as a symbol of washing away sin.
Bible
Bible is the christian holy book made up of the new and Old Testament. They think it is inspired by God and call it the ‘word of God’.
confirmation
Confirmation is a rite through which a person baptised as an infant agrees with being a christian. They become a full member of the church.
Eucharist.
Eucharist means ‘thanksgiving’ and is the service of Holy communion. The death of Jesus is remembered by sharing bread and wine.
Free will
Free will is the ability to voluntarily make choices for which you are responsible. It is the belief that nothing is pre-determined.
Heaven
Heaven is where those who have faith in Jesus will go in the afterlife. It is being in the presence of God for eternity.
Hell
Hell is where those who do not have faith in Jesus will go in the afterlife. It is a place of punishment where you are seperated from God for eternity.
Judgement
Judgement is the belief that God will judge whether or not humans are worthy to enter the kingdom of Heaven
Marriage symbols
Marriage symbols are the features of a wedding ceremony that show the purpose of marriage. An example is the ring as a symbol of never-ending love
Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is a journey made to a holy place as an act of worship. An example is visiting Jerusalem to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Reason
Reason is the ability to think in an intellectual way. It is to form judgements using evidence and logic.
Revelation
revelation mean God showing humans that He exists and what He is like. This might be through the Bible or nature.
Vows
Vows are promises to be faithful made between a bride and groom. They can be promises a person makes to God.
