Hardrada and Tostigs troops outnumbered Edwin and Morcar but they used a shild wall so Hardradas troops attacked from the side killing thousands and this made Harold come up to the north
Battle of Stamford bridge
because Harold got there so quick he had the advantage of suprise on the vikings who were still celebrating there victory and had also left most of their armour and wepons by the ship and therfore Harold won
Battle of Hastings
-Harold was unable to achieve a suprise attack
-his army were able to position themselves on top of a hill using the shield wall and Williams archers started to attack but didn’t reach Harold army
-then the English housewares were able to hurt alot of soldiers however then
-William used the feigned retreat

the use of the feigned retreat as well as different methods such as mem on horseback and archers was able to give William the upper hand

-he was able to survive the storm when crossing the English Channel
-he was lucky with the timing of Hardradas invasion

Why William won the battle
-prepared a powerful, well trained army
-leadership: brave and inspiring, better communication with his army than harold because harold was unable to communicate with his less experienced army
luck: fortunate harold was in the north and was killed right before the battle would’ve ended because of nightfall
