Kett's Rebellion Flashcards

Q

What were the agricultural causes of the rebellion?

A
  1. Enclosure: landlords increased profit by enclosing the commonland for farming. Meant there were fewer jobs and peasants had less available space to grow crops and rear animals. This meant there was less food and less profit for them.
  2. Meadows too expensive for farmers and peasants to buy
  3. Gentry population exploited peasants and grazed their sheep on unsown land but spent too long there.
