Causes of the Kett rebellion
- Economic unrest in East Anglia against large farmers who were enclosing common land
Who led the Kett rebellion?
Robert Kett. Agreed as a landowner to end enclosure on his land.
How many men were raised and where did they set up a camp?
- 16,000 men set up camp on Mousehold Heath in Norwich
- led an originally peaceful campaign
How did their peaceful campaign change?
Began to fire on Norwich and a day later had control of the city
Who failed to recapture Norwich?
Earl of Northampton
Who were the rebellions eventually defeated by?
Forces led by Northumberland. Massacred 3,000 rebels
What was Somerset criticised for?
Not being tough enough on the rebels. Meanwhile Northumberland showed no mercy.
Why was the Kett Rebellion considered a weak threat?
