Kelly James Flashcards
Good morning, Please introduce yourself to the jury.
Good morning, I am special agent Kelly James.
What do you do for a living?
I work for the FBI, specializing in federal cases involving organized and white collar crimes, which includes bank robberies.
Why did you decide to go into the FBI?
Well, my father and grandfather were a part of the FBI. I have always looked up to them and their work, so I decided to follow in their footsteps.
How long have you been in the FBI?
I graduated from the FBI academy in 2012.
How are you related to this case?
I conducted the investigation for the bank robbery that occurred on October 31st, 2017 at the Third National Bank.
Have you ever investigated a bank robbery before?
Prior to this case, I have investigated 12 bank robberies and been the lead investigator for 8 of those cases.
How do you conduct an investigation for a bank robbery.
When conducting an investigation I sweep the crime scene for evidence and interview any eyewitnesses to the robbery. I apply my different knowledge in forensics and criminology as its needed throughout.
Did you do this for today’s case?
Yes, ma’am.
When did you first hear about the bank robbery on October 31st, 2017?
Around 11:30 am that morning I received a call about the robbery from my superior and immediately headed to the bank.
What did you do when you got to the bank?
Once I got to the bank, I searched the scene for any evidence. Then I spoke to witnesses and employees.
What kind of evidence did you collect
At the bank, I gathered evidence and information from the lobby, teller area, and utility closet. The following days I analyzed bank footage and the call histories of the confiscated burner phones.
Agent James, I wanna start with that inspection of the lobby. Did you find anything that looked out of place in your visual inspection?
I found two things. First. The camera was pointed towards the ceiling. Second. The silent alarm signaled it had not been tripped.
You said the camera was pointed at the ceiling. Do you know if anyone moved it to that position?
I dusted the camera for fingerprints and found one use-able print. When I ran the print through our system it was a match to Parker Barrow’s left index finger.
You also mentioned that the silent-alarm wasn’t tripped, why did that stick out to you?
It was noticeable since the authorities were alerted by an outside witness. Additionally, the alarm showed neutral lights, which should have been red if the alarm had been triggered.
Do you know if the alarm system was working that day?
I tested the system myself and it worked just fine, so if the teller had triggered the alarm, one of the indicator lights should have been on and the authorities should have been notified.
