KE & Collisions Flashcards
Collision
When two or more object make contact with each other
Force
A push or a Pull
Kinetic Energy
The energy of motion
Damage
A change in structure or appearance of an object
Contact Force
A force applied when object are touching each other
Deform
The process of changing shape in an object, can happen slowly or quickly
Line of best fit
A line going through a graph that most of the points surround
Elastic Limit
The maximum extent which a solid may be deformed without permanently affecting it
IV
Something that I change
DV
A change that you observe; what you measure
Breaking Point
when an object has gone past its elastic limit and breaks
Peak Force
The highest amount of force is applied to both objects
FBD
A simplified diagram that shows all the forces acting on an object, commonly shown as a dot box
Newtons third law
every action force creates a reaction force that is equal in strength, but opposite in direction
Linear
A straight Line
Newton’s first law
Objects resisted, change in motion, unless acted upon by an external force
Potential Energy
Potential energy is stored energy due to its position or condition
Friction
A force of opposes, motion, acts, and opposite direction of motion
Thermal Energy
Energy due to temperature
Air resistance
Air friction, and how much the air holds back or drags an object
Newton second law
The second law describes the relationship between force mass and motion
Acceleration
Measure of the change in speed, positive = speed up, negative = slow down
