Who is this common in?
What is a key complication here?
➊ Medium-vessel vasculitis
➋ Asian children (particularly Japanese and Korean) and Boys
➌ Coronary Artery Aneurysm
How does it present?
• Persistent high fever
• Widespread erythematous maculopapular rash
• Strawberry tongue
• Cervical lymphadenopathy
• Bilateral conjunctivitis
• Desquamation – skin peeling on palms and soles
What should be done urgently?
What should the pt be started on?
Why is Aspirin usually avoided in children?
➊ Echo – check for and monitor coronary aneurysms
➋ • High-dose Aspirin – reduce risk of thrombosis
• IVIG – reduce risk of coronary artery aneurysms
➌ Due to the risk of Reye’s Syndrome (swelling of brain and liver)
