Design / method
Used a variety of depression inventories, all ps were tested prior to actual treatment
they were also tested after treatment using the inventories and some cases after a period as a follow up
Health practitioners were sometimes used to asses patients
Aim
To compare drug treatment and non drug treatment for depression
Results
Adding psychological treatments to drug therapy did not increase the effectiveness of the drug therapy
Occasionally studies did show that there was less attrition when combination therapies was used.
This means that people were more likely to continue with treatment of cognitive therapy was given in addition to drug therapy
Conclusions
Although it would seem logical that 2 treatment are better than 1.
The evidence does not show any better outcomes for ps offered combined therapy as opposed to only drug therapy show the effectiveness of drug therapy on depression
