Nursing Considerations:

  • Avoid use with alcohol, CNS depressants
  • Treatment of alcohol withdrawal
  • Teach patient that dizziness/drowsiness may occur; use caution in potentially hazardous activities
  • Notify physician of diagnosis of glaucoma, ulcers, enlarged prostate gland, liver disease, hypertension, seizures, or hyperthyroidism
  • Observe for difficulty breathing
  • Muscle weakness

  • Check oral cavity for Candida albicans

  • Discard tablets if vinegar-like smell
  • Do not give to children or teens with flulike symptoms or chickenpox; Reye syndrome may develop
