Kant and abortion Flashcards
deontological
this means the that Kant’s opinion on abortion is that abortion is either absolutely right or absolutely wrong
formula of the kingdom of ends
you must not use anyone as an means to an end so if you abort a baby to pursue your career you are using the foetus as an means to an end
universalization
if it is right to abort a baby in one circumstance the same rules must apply to all circumstances, therefore abortion is absolutely wrong- it’s a woman duty to not have an abortion
consequences
Kant dismisses the hypothetical imperative as he says it leads to wrong moral decisions because you are not using true moral reasoning. this means abortion is wrong as you shouldn’t look to the consequences
fair universe
if a woman carries out her duty by not having an abortion then you will be reward in the summon bonnum and you will get justice
