What was a kamikaze pilot?
A
A Japanese war pilot ordered to crash a plane with explosives into enemy ships. It was considered a great honour as it was the most sacrificial death.

How is conflict presented in the poem?
A
Externally - WW2 was occurring, a fight between the Japanese and Americans.
Internally - pilot decides between the mission and his life, as he values his life and family more than the mission concludingly. There is conflict between the man and the demands of his society

Garland presents the sea as a place of riches and beauty.
