Written from a daughter’s perspective in the third person. Narration creates a sense detachment which reflects the distance the speaker feels from her father’s life as she grew up not knowing him. There’s also a shift in narration from third to first person which hightens the emotion

Written in free verse and enjambment could also show that he is starting to doubt his obedience and realised he wants to pursue the freedom and beauty of life unrestrained. Structured into tightly controlled stanza lentths of 6 lines, which perhaps reflects the order and obedience expected of a soldier.
