KA 2: experimentation: presentation of data Flashcards
qualitive, quantiative or ranked data
qualitive, quantiative or ranked data
what is qualitative data?
subjective and descriptive
* bar chart
* pie chart
quantitative data can be measured…
…objectivelly, usually with a numerical
- scatter plot
- line graph
- histogram
- box plot
what does ranked data refer to?
the data transformation in which numerical values are replaced by their rank when the data are sorted from lowest to highest
- bar chart
- stacked bar chart
what are box plots used to show?
variation within and between data sets
name the different ranges
- median
- lower quartile
- upper quartile
- inter-quartile
when does correlation exist?
if there is a relationship between two variables
what is correlation?
an association and does not imply causation
where does causation exist?
if the changes in the values of the indepedent variable are known to cause changes to the value of the dependent variable
where does a positive correlation exist?
increase in one variable=increase in other variable
where does a negative correlation exist?
increase in one variable=decrease in other variable
what is the strength of correlation proportional to?
to spread of values from line of best fit
