Described the way Orabase was made and the concentrations?
Phase 1 was prepared by dispersing the gelling agents (CMC-Na, pectin, and gelatin) in distilled water in which the other excipients had previously been dissolved. The dispersion was heated (60°C) under continuous stirring until a gel formed (FISATOM, model 713D, Brazil). Phase 2 was obtained by melting the required amount of polyethylene in liquid paraffin in a 60°C water bath (ETHIK TECHNOLOGY, model 208-1D, Brazil). The phases were mixed, and a soft orabase was formed after cooling. Bacon flavoring was incorporated at 0.5% w/w and the formulation was labeled ORA. The pomegranate extract was added using a mortar and pestle, in proportions of 12.5%, 25.0%, and 37.5% w/w. The products were named ORA1, ORA2, and ORA3, respectively. Orabase without preservative (ORAWP) was also prepared for use as a control.
