juz 1 Flashcards
ra’ina
word ra’ina is an expression that is used to request the speaker to repeat themselves
Reina in Hebrew is actually a girl’s name. it means pure and clean, but it’s a woman’s name. So if you’re calling a man by the name of a woman
why there is a need to ask to repeat by a listener
Because the listener has either not understood them or deems what the speaker just said to be very important.
how prophet repeated
We see this in so many ahadith that, you know, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam repeated a statement 2 times or 3 times or that he kept repeating that statement until the companions wished that, you know, he would stop.
There are certain words, certain expressions that are more respectful, more appropriate compared to others. And we should always use words that are more respectful, Expressions that are more respectful. Because words and expressions that are not that respectful, they can be misunderstood by the other person. they may feel that you’re not paying regard to them or you’re not treating them respectfully.
why the believers are told to not say ra’ina is because the people of the book in Medina, the Jews in Medina, they really took advantage of this word, ra’ina, and they would say it deliberately with an accent or deliberately they would mispronounce it make fun of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
listen attentively when the prophet is speaking so that you don’t even have to ask him to repeat himself. When the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam is mentioning something important, he will repeat himself anyway. But you don’t be distracted while he is speaking so that you have to ask him to repeat himself over and over again. That is not respectful.
That you cannot just use any word that you want to. You have to be very careful with, you know, even the expressions that you use. So sometimes you do feel like, you know, it’s not fair. Why do I have to carry the burden? Why do I have to be extra careful?
You know, it’s other people’s fault. They’re the ones who are at fault. They need to be punished. Yes. Allah is saying.
They will get what they deserve. Don’t worry about that. That will happen. They will have a painful punishment. But you are responsible for your actions.
And when you see that something that you’re doing can be misunderstood or it is being, you know, misused by other people against you, against your messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, then yes, you cannot change the people, but you can change your words. So change the changeable. You know, there are many situations in which, you know, people are being unfair to you. They are the ones who are at fault, but you are not able to change them. You are not able to change, you know, the entire situation.
What you can do is change the words that you’re using. Change your behavior. So do what is in your control
