what is the challenge to the array
can be done by either prosecution or defence
whole jury is challenged on the basis that it has been chosen
in an unrepresentative way.
If the jury has been chosen in a random way, it cannot be
challenged because it is not multi-racial. See R v Ford (1989)
what is the challenge for cause
by prosecution or defence
Challenging the right of an individual juror to serve on the panel for a valid reason eg they are disqualified or are related to a witness
what is the challenge prosecution right to stand by
prosecution only
The prosecution can ask for a juror to be ‘stood by’ or put to the back of the list
they will only serve as a juror if there are not enough other jurors
