What are the basic requisites before a Court can acquire jurisdiction over criminal cases?
- Jurisdiction over the subject matter.
- Jurisdiction over the territory.
- Jurisdiction over the person of the accused.

How is jurisdiction over the subject matter conferred?
- By the relevant allegations in the complaint;
- By the law in effect when the action is filed; and
- By the character of the relief sought irrespective of whether the plaintiff is entitled to all or some of the claims asserted.
