“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet.”
Analysis:
Insinuates that a name has no real bearing on a person, questioning the validity of names, very reflective, insightful and mature approach for her age, seeing names as divisive
Makes an analogy likening him to a rose, sees him as beautiful, able to exemplify what she’s saying

“It is too rash, too unadvis’d, too sudden.”
Analysis:
Shows Juliet’s pragmatic nature as she is able to recognise that the relationship is moving too quickly, uses asyndetic listing to reinforce this Foreshadowing - this same haste will be the reason for their inevitable demise

“Come, Night, come, Romeo, come, thou day in night”
Analysis:
Perception of night and day have been subverted as a result of the transformative effect of love, now providing a sense of concealment and intimacy
Throughout the soliloquy, the theme of darkness is repeated, which displays the extent of her impatience to be with him
Links back to “artificial night”, at this moment in the play, night is a good time

“To beg your pardon (she kneels down)” (line 21)

• Juliet utilises her language to appear regretful and appease her father, presenting her as measured.
• Use of the verb “beg” implies that she is desperate for forgiveness, she is masterful with her language.
• She lowers herself to physically be on a lower level than her father, this presents her as compliant and obedient, which was what was expected of women in the Elizabethan era.

Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s drink - I drink to thee.” (line 58)
• Juliet repeats Romeo’s name three times as he is her last thought, which shows her allegiance to Romeo, presenting her as besotted.
• In her final moments, she is honouring Romeo. This mirrors how Romeo honours Juliet in his last moments. Their similar behaviour highlights their compatibility.

‘O happy dagger / This is thy sheath’.
- Juliet describes the dagger as ‘happy’ to demonstrate how it will enable her to meet with Romeo in the after life.
- This links to when she states that Romeo ‘left no friendly drop to help me after’ showing how attributes positive adjectives to means of ending her life since Romeo is her only source of happiness.
