Judiciary Evaluation Flashcards
What is the main criticism of judges in regards to age?
76% of all court judges are over the age of 50 which can affect how they handle the case.
What is the main criticism of judges in regards to women in the judiciary?
Only 32% of all judges are women which means there is a lack of diversity within the judiciary.
In the early 1980’s there were no women judges in the CoA and only 3 in the HC.
What is the main criticism of judges in regards to BAME representation?
In April 2020 only 8% of all court judges were from a BAME background which shows a complete lack of diversity within the judiciary. This can lead to dissatisfaction within society which means it is an area in need of fixing, but it will take too long to bring new BAME judges up to the higher courts.
