  • Superior: Lord Chief Justice, Justices of Appeal (Supreme Court), Lord Justices of Appeal, High Court Judges.
  • Inferior Judges: Circuit Judges, District Judges, Recorders, Tribunal Judges.

State + explain the Qualification, Selection + Appointment of Judges.

A
  • Qualifications: need legal qualifications + experience as either a solicitor or barrister for 5+ years, also need a certain number of years as a Judge.
  • Selection: Applicant then interviewed by Lord Chief Justice.
  • Appointment: Once candidate has been selected by Lord Chief Justice, appointment then made by the King- keeping selection + appointment separate from gov.

State + explain the Role of Judges in Civil Courts.

A
  • Supreme Court (Appeal): deciding precedent, push law to Parliament for change.
  • Court of Appeal (Appeal): creating law, making decisions on: points of law, remedies + liability.
  • County Court (Trial): Small-Claim track, explain legal terms to claimant, manage the case, make decisions on liability + remedies.
