Concurrent Jurisdiction
Authority of a court to hear a case for the first time
Original Jurisdiction
Authority of a court to hear a case apoealed from the lower court
Appapellate Jurisdiction
Judge in a federal district court who does the routine business of the court
Magistate (Judge)
The decision of an appeals court that a person DID get a fair trial
Uphold
The decision of an apeals court to change the verdict of the district court
Reverse
The decision of an appeals court that the defendant did not get a fair trail in the district court
Remand
The power of the Supreme Court to say whether any federal, state, or local law or goveenment actions gies against the Constitution
Judicial Review
The constitutional protection against unfair governmental actions
Due Process
A relatively minor offence, such as vandalism or stealing inexpensive items
Misdemeanor
A serious crime such as murder, rape, kidnapping, or robbery
Felony
A good reason for believing that a crime has been committed or that certain property is connected with crime
Probable Cause
A hearing in which a suspect is charged, due process is reviewed, and a plea is entered
Arraignment
