What is the Judiciary?
Collective name for judges.
What are Superior judges?
Sit in Supreme court, Court of Appeal and High court.
What are Inferior Judges?
Sit in Crown, County, Magistrates and tribunals.
What are the justices of supreme courts?
These are law lords. They sit in the supreme court, most senior judges. Hear points on the most important issues in law. Sit in uneven panel.
What are the senior judges of the court appeal?
Hear appeals. Panel of 3.
What are High court judges?
Sit in High or Crown court. Hear criminal appeals from Magistrates court. Known as Pruise judges.
What are circuit judges?
They sit in Crown courts. They hear criminal trials and decide law then decide if guilty or not.
What are Recorders?
Part time judges. They are either practicing solicitors or barristers. They sit in Crown court.
What are district judges?
They sit in Magistrates court. They hear criminal cases, sit alone and decide fact and law and sentence if guilty.
