Ner Tamid - Eternal light that hangs above the ark, which is a symbol of Gods Presence
Torah Scrolls - The holiest scrolls in Judaism and are kept in the Ark
The Ark - The holy ark which is a closet that holds the Torah scrolls
Mezuzah?
Found on every door frame in the Jewish home except the toilet. It contains a copy of the Shema, which is taken from the Torah. When Jews pass it they kiss it
Tallit? When is it worn and what is it made of?
a prayer robe worn by Jews during weekday morning services and the Sabbath. Made of wool. It is wrapped around the Jew to remind him that God surrounds him
Kippah?
Covers the Jews head as a sign of respect for God. Some Orthodox Jewish men and boys were a Kippah throughout the day as a constant reminder that God is higher than they are
Tefillin?
Two small black boxes made from leather of a kosher animal, which are strapped to the forehead and left arm which is near the heart. They are worn there to remind them that God is constantly in their mind and in their heart

The Kaddish prayer?
Praises God and asks for his blessing. It is said near the end of a service in the synagogue and during Festivals
The Amidah prayer?
means standing. It is repeated silently facing the Ark in the synagogue

What happens at Brit Milah?
Jewish boy is circumcised at 8 days old by a Mohel.
Firstly the child is passed around family and friends, then placed on the grandparents lap when the procedure happens. The spirit of Elijah looks down on the child to check it runs smoothly. The Rabbi will then bless the child and place some wine on its lips to numb the pain. The child’s Hebrew name will be announced
What happens at a bar mitzvah?
On the Sabbath after the boys 13th bday, a ceremony happens in the synagogue. Before it, the boy will be told to learn a portion of the Torah. At the ceremony, the boy will stand at the Bimah and read his portion from the Torah in front of family and friends. Then the boys father will read a speech called the baruch shepatrani thanking God for bringing the boy to maturity and declaring him responsible for his own actions. Finally, the Rabbi will then ask God for his blessing upon the boy and will explain to him his new responsibilities.
Shabbat Service?
The holiest day of the week. “ remember the Sabbath and keep it holy” Begins on Friday at nightfall and ends on Saturday at sunset. During this period Three prayer services take place on Friday night, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. Orthodox ceremonies includes singing but no music, which has happened since the destruction of the temple to show mourning for its loss. Reform services are often shorter and include more readings and variation in prayers.
Why is prayer important?
it is a way of living out of their faith connecting with God and keeping the mitzvah. The Siddur provides the daily prayers that a Jewish person can use to help them focus their mind on God.
Shema prayer?
important prayer in judaism that reminds jews that they are monotheists. It is said in the morning and evening services as well as before a Jew goes to sleep.
