Significance: symbolises the chatans commitment to clothe and protect his wife ancient ritual (gen 29)
3) Chuppah
Significance:
Vows under a canopy
Significance: symbolises gods presence in the ‘house of god’ and their commitment under the covenant.
4) Blessings of bethothal
Significance:
two cups of wine are had. one before the blessing and one after.
Significance: symbolises joy
5) Giving of the ring
Significance:
Significance: marriage becomes official once the chatan gives something of value to the kallah.
6) Ketubah
Significance:
signing of the marriage contract by the chatan and kalah, property of the kallah
7) Breaking of the glass
Significance:
Significance: serves as an expression of saddness of the destruction of the temple of jerusalem.
8) Seudah - festival meal
Significance:
joy and happiness in this new found committment.
